AFI is an American rock band from Ukiah, California, that was formed in 1991. It has comprised lead vocalist Davey Havok, drummer Adam Carson, bassist-keyboardist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist-keyboardist Jade Puget since 1998. Havok and Carson are the sole remaining original members, with founding guitarist Mark Stopholese having left in 1998. They began as a hardcore punk band in the 1990s but have since explored a myriad of genres. The century's turn saw them embrace horror punk before gaining mainstream popularity in the 2000s with a post-hardcore and emo sound, following which they have delved into alternative rock and gothic rock.
